Amwaaj
Amwaaj, meaning "waves" in Arabic, is a Minnesota-based ensemble dedicated to sharing the rich
beauty of traditional and classical Arabic music through performance and education. Concerts have featured
traditional music from Egypt, Algeria, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, as well as works by
contemporary Palestinian, Lebanese, Armenian-American, and Egyptian composers.
Members include Salah Fattah (violin, oud), Laura Harada (violin,
oud), Dawn Doering (nay, flute), Alexis Hernandez Abreu (cello, percussion), and Tim O'Keefe (riqq,
Egyptian tabla, oud). Special guest vocalist will be Moez Zikroui. They come from a diverse variety of cultural backgrounds and have studied under master musicians. Recent performances include the World
Music Series at Winona State University with Tunisian guest vocalist Moez Zikroui and a fundraiser
performance for Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Brooklyn, New York.
